Travel from Taman Negara to Cameron Highlands

Just wondering how much it would be for 4 people travelling from Taman Negara to Cameron Highlands.

How long would the journey take too?

Travel Itinerary Idea to Cameron Highlands during Chinese New Year

Hi, I am from KL. It will be my first time driving up to Cameron Highlands with my family members. I am really anxious about the trip and need to ensure all works well. Could you please help to look at my itinerary if they are ok in terms of the travelling routes? I am not sure if I should go Sg. Palas Boh Tea or the one at Bahu because I stay in Brinchang??

Monday 11-Feb (Day 1)

-Morning drive up to Cameron Highlands from KL
-Lunch probably in one of those PLUS Expressway R&R places
-Afternoon reach Brinchang, heading down to Tanah Rata - Maybank to wait for my cousin brother
-Tea together at Uncle Chow Kopitiam
-Heading up to Brinchang - Denver's @ Rose Apartment, check-in and rest

Tuesday 12-Feb (Day 2)

-Wake up early
-Home-made breakfast at the apartment
-Visit Sg. Palas Boh Tea Plantation / Boh Tea Garden at Habu then tea/scones at Bharat Tea
-Visit Cactus Valley
-Visit Hill Strawberry Farm
-Visit Night market at Tanah Rata (is there a night market at Brinchang?)
-Dinner at Hong Kong Restaurant or restaurant around Brinchang

Wednesday 13-Feb (Day 3)

-Wake up early
-Breakfast at the chinese food stall at Brinchang area
-Visit Kea Farm
-Back to apartment to pack-up
-Visit Green View Garden to buy strawberries/jam on the way down back to KL

Appreciate if you could advise me if my itinerary sound OK?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks,

Dear Aileen

Suggest you drive up via Tapah route as the day you are traveling is on CNY

Although it CNY and Chinese market hawkers may or may not set up Brinchang Night Market, nowadays there are other hawkers (Malay, Indian, Bangla, Indon, etc) so it high chance it would be on. Plus tourist like to park haphazard visiting nurseries, Kea Farm and other sights along the route causing massive traffic jams from Kg Raja all the way to Brinchang. Even if you were to travel early arfternoon you still may get stuck in slow moving traffic. Use the Tapah route up, although more tricky, would save you a lot of time (even if you were stuck behind a lorry or bus going uphill). My friends and relative experience for the traffic jam, about 4 hours+ from Kg Raja to Brinchang! Nope, I wouldn't enjoy that. Plus the ladies needed to use the loo, and they could actually walked out of the car, do their business (don't know where they found the bathroom), and catch up with the car to join back the jam! They marveled that we could still sip a cup of tea at Bharat, chit chat here and there before checking in at Greenhill apartment and still arrived earlier than them!

Visiting Tea Plantation can be difficult, again due to heavy traffic. Although the Sg Palas has a very beautiful cliff hanger tea house, be prepared to jam all the way in. Otherwise go to Habu side. Traffic may still be heavy but probably less headache than Sg Palas. Or perhaps leave your tea plantation visit to last day as that would be a working day (no more public holiday). Then again, many people would still be on leave, but perhaps the traffic would be lighter as some people will have to return to go to work.

Kea Farm on last day is good idea.

Anyway, it is holiday season, expect lots of people and heavy traffic, don't try to cram in too many sight, relax and enjoy your time! Missed any sights, come back again next time!

Cheers!

Dear Jan,

Many thanks for your quick response to my enquiry.
Your website is very information and very helpful. The information from you is certainly useful for my journey up to Cameron Highlands.

I know...it would be a massive jam, although I really hate it but sort of expected.

Gong xi fa cai and a very happy chinese new year to you and family!

Best wishes,
Aileen

Travel by Train to Cameron Highlands then by Bus or Taxi

I sent this question to Kang Tours and Travel \"In Feb/Mar 2013 I intend to come from Singapore by train which reaches Ipoh about 6pm. I\'d like to stay in Cameron Highlands that night, do one of your full day tours and get back to Ipoh that evening to catch the overnight train to Thailand. Does that sound possible and what costs are involve?\"

I didn\'t get a reply, can you help? Thanks.

Dear John

If I read right, your planned schedule is:

6pm arrive ipoh train station and try to find a taxi
8pm arrive Cameron Highlands after a 2 hours drive arriving at night
go for night tour say for 1 hour ( I don't know who would entertain you, probably the same taxi that you took from Ipoh could drive you around and one hour at night won't get you to see anything probably just stuck in Tanah Rata or other town Brinchang, for 1/2 hours each because everything else is pitch black at night...)
9pm depart for the dangerous 2 hours drive back to Ipoh
11pm arrive back at train station and catch the midnight train

All done in just one night!
I think your plan is ridiculous!
Cheers!
Jan

Dear Jan

Thanks for replying.

Yes, I agree that plan would be ridiculous. No, my plan is: after arriving about 6pm in Ipoh taxi (or bus if available?) to hotel/lodge in Cameron Highland, stay there that night, take a day tour the next day ending late afternoon/early evening (as I think the Kang Tours do) then go back to Ipoh for the train.

A bit short, perhaps, but a whole day of daylight for the tour not the black of evening and all the time I have available.

Cheers,
John

Dear John,

Ah! Now it make sense!

Because your time is short and arriving in the evening, catching a taxi to Cameron Highlands would be the better option but would be costlier (no idea of the price but would be at least RM100 and above)

Hotels price range between RM80 to RM200, but go for higher price for more comfort, somewhere around RM150 at Century Pines would be good.

Then after tour, you could check whether Kang Travel and Tours has any mini-van services for the evening to Ipoh. Or you could check the bus station for its inaccurate bus schedule. If you want to avoid missing the train ride, best to go for Kang's mini van service (if any available to Ipoh) or worse come to worse, taxi service.

Cheers!

Dear Jan

Once again thanks for all the info, the taxis seem a bit expensive and I was wondering if Kang Tours or someone else could do me a complete package with pick-up at Ipoh, transfer to Cameron Highlands, accommodation that night, a tour the next day and then transfer back to Ipoh.

I mention Kang Tours because they do seem to have accommodation, do day tours and you mention the possibility of a mini-van service. Also I noticed you maintain their web site and I was wondering if you could check if the query I sent through the site ever reached them. I did have some difficulty as the initial page reported a fault when I submitted the form but then I seemed to be taken to another web form (it looked entirely different) which did seem to accept my query. But they never answered so did they ever get my enquiry? Could you ask, please.

Thanks again for your help,
John.

Dear John

I'm no longer maintaining their website. Looks like the other person not doing a good job on mail redirection despite being a better web designer than me.

You may email them directly at:

kangtravellershotel@hotmail.com
danielslodge@hotmail.com

Due to they receive many inquiries and a family run business, you may want to call them for immediate response to your query, their staff may be able to assist your queries.

Yes, they have a mini van service but they need to fill it up with passengers in order to run it efficiently. Ipoh does not have high tourist volume. Perhaps your best bet would be to get your mini van pickup from Kuala Lumpur instead (if you are coming up from the south). Then you can check for their north schedule and have them drop you off to Ipoh if convenient, if not you may need to drop off in Butterworth if they are ok with it or you may have to end up in Georgetown as most majority of tourist would go there.

And yes, they have room and rather budget, but for a good night's sleep I would still suggest a nicely furnished hotel. After all it is just for one night. Being on travel sometimes there are expenses that should be spent and not try to save.

And yes, taxi are expensive, so if you want to save on transport, the above idea would match with each other. Buses are best considered last due to not running on time, breakdowns, and dangerous (especially night service, and the regular news report of bus crashes happens mostly at night). The last point already make me shudder.

Cheers!

so how's nak pergi jalan2?naik teksi?
tq :)

Putri Nia

Dear Putri,

2) Kang Tours and Travel 05-491 5828 (sebelah Pos Office)
3) CS Travel

Harga mereka lebih-kurang sama-sama. Pakai tour pun boleh duduk Land Rover (jika pergi jungle hiking), action sikit-lah!

Cheers!

SBI Meet Up for tea or coffee, nice!

Hi again Jan,

I just have to write again as I saw that you have made your site through SBI, amazing, that is what I am doing now! Building up a site with SBI..but not about traveling. Anyway, that is really interesting and such a coincidence. Right now I am in Sarawak for the election, I have made my living my journalism to be able to live abroad, which I am very tired of, and that is how I found solution with SBI to change my direction. I will visit Cameron Highlands in May, have a look around, and then if I like it up there I plan to return in late August/early September after spending a longer time with parents and friends as I haven't really been back in Sweden for six years. I don't know if you have time, just felt spontanously that it would be nice to just meet for a coffee or whatever. Two SBI:ers in the same spot.

Cheers

Dear Anna,

Small world indeed, though hardly surprising as I have SBI friends (unfortunately due to distance, haven't got a chance to meet up with any). I don't live in Cameron Highlands though. Much like Ken Evoy's daughter who has a beautiful website about Aguilera while they live in Canada.

If ever we do meet, yes, we can have coffee perhaps Starbucks? There is one in Cameron Highlands, or go for tea or teh tarik!

For renting or long stay in a house or apartment you can try Michael Chin (+6012-506070 / +6019-5126070).

Oh, by the way, what's your website URL?

Cheers!
Jan.
15/4/2011

Dear Jan,

Thank you very much for your quick reply!! And I am very grateful for the contact details. Actually when I have looked into it a bit more I think Cameron Highlands will be a bit too chilly for me J I have become such a tropical person. But I will have a look at the surroundings as it seems to be so beautiful with the mountains. I may find an area on the way up that is comfortable, not as hot as KL but not as cold as on the top. I will also travel over to the east coast and see how it is there. Some people say it is very peaceful.

My site is not up yet, but my domain name is Best-alternative-fuel-sources. I am on my way to put info together but I have a bit of a break as I do some writing work for the moment over here. But I think it will be up in June.

We keep in touch. I will do some traveling around the peninsula in early/middle of May, otherwise I might be back in early September if I find a place where I like to settle in. We’ll see.

All the best.
Anna

Cheapest Day Trip from Kuala Lumpur to CH to Penang

Hello,

I am planning a day trip from Kuala Lumpur for one person. I am looking for the cheapest way to do this. Organisations tend to be expensive for single travellers and won't allow me to join someone else. Another possibility is to do a 2 day-tour and ending up in Penang.

What do you recommend? My compliments for this very informative site!

Best regards,

Casper Spiering
Netherlands
7/3/2011

Dear Casper,

Usually tour companies are still the best and cheapest than doing it on your on. There are many tour companies in KL so look around for one suitable for you. That's what I would do. I have done this method in Bangkok, Melbourne, London, and it has worked well so far.

Jan.

Backpackers Day Trip Tour to Brinchang

I need your help to suggest me about how to buy day trip or tour to Brinchang. I will go to Cameron Highland in April and stay in Tanah Rata for 2 nights but it'd be great if we can set up our travel plan to fully utilize our short vacation.

Thanks in advance for your advice & thanks for useful info in your link.

Dear Boebie Brown,
There is no day trip package to Brinchang. Just use a taxi to get there.
Regards,
Jan.
8/3/2011

Thank you Jan.. However, we are budget backpackers so we would like to know how much we will pay for it or any public transportation provided.
Boebie
8/3/2011

Dear Brown,

It is possible to walk from Tanah Rata to Brinchang, how long it takes I have no idea as I usually drive. Driving takes about 5 minutes, so it might take about 30 minutes by walking (just a guess). Taxi cost RM25 per hour, can take up to 4 passengers (1 front, 3 rear) if you are plus size then only 2 rear or you can try to squeeze in! Or you can use the public bus but walking might get you there sooner than public bus!

Backpackers... so very likely you will be staying at Kang Travelodge, Father's Guesthouse, Cameronian Inn, Twinpines or 8 Mentigi. Check with them about tour packages with cheapest starting from RM60.

Cheers!

We will follow your suggestion.
Have a good day!
