Waking up in Cameron Highlands. Temperature in the morn about 23.4 C in the hotel room according to my Casio watch.
Still felt very cold here in Heritage Hotel. Now planning for breakfast coz my dad's Heritage Vacation club don't have breakfast included. I think we will go Uncle Chow for breakfast coz my family has not tried it yet.
As for baby? Will let him sleep with uncle and auntie coz their paid room came with breakfast and they can take care sleeping baby while we quickly take our breakfast.
Good to be up in Cameron Highlands to cool off from KL heat. Kinda off peak this weekend probably due to Ramadhan fasting month.
So go for some chow chow now!

Enjoying myself in Awana Genting Highlands
Refreshing change instead of Cameron Highlands, made a trip to Genting Highlands instead. Hold up in Awana Genting Highlands for the night and next day Genting View Resort coz my church having a camp over there. Good to stay a day earlier and relax and enjoy a simple break.
Coz when the church camp runs is going to be a heady day of lessons and of course fun games and worship session.
I think I'm going to be late but no hurry. Let the day take care of itself. After all Jesus did say not to worry too much about tomorrow for today already have enough of its trouble. So take it as it comes.
For now I enjoy my buffet breakfast and have my cup of tea. Complete this blog and time to make a move!

Hotel De La Ferns Cameron Highlands HSBC Promotion 2011
While browsing further and making my blog post, I found this HSBC Promotion too in the HSBC Smart Privileges brochure. So looks like Hotel De La Ferns Cameron Highlands is jumping into the credit card promotion bandwagon too! This hotel is much pricier than the Equatorial promotion although it comes with breakfast and steamboat meal. Well this hotel is new (it's been more than a year now, still considered new I suppose) and they have been improving on their service. As the last time I checked up with them they gave me a good nice tour of the place. Just need to find the time write the blog post because I'm so busy right now I haven't found the time to do a proper update.

Hotel De La Ferns did admit their café restaurant service still need to be improved upon so let's hope this promotion which includes breakfast and steamboat dinner will live up to the improvement of F&B services.
As for the rooms, they are superb and probably charge a premium if comparing against other star rated hotels except YTL, Smokehouse and Lakehouse which are far more expensive. So you want nice and good, Hotel De La Ferns is the place. Location is great too! Just between Brinchang and Tanah Rata.
So study the HSBC Smart Privileges brochure which I extracted here and if you owned a HSBC credit card you can go for it if you feel the rates is within your budget for a Cameron Highlands vacation, right!

Equatorial Cameron Highlands HSBC Promotion 2011
I'm sure some of you guys are holding a HSBC credit card so looks like you can take up this Equatorial Cameron Highlands promotion. HSBC Smart Privileges brochure has something yummy for everybody, so while I was browsing it through I happened to bump into this hotel promotion. Such promotions are good for us right? After all it is cheaper than the usual rack rates. But of course you can still give a comparison by calling up Hotel Equatorial and ask them whether they have any other promotional rate, then compare that with the HSBC Smart Privileges promotion and see which offer is better. Shop smart mah!

I have stayed in Equatorial some years back with my wife and we certainly enjoyed our stay there saved for the rather slower maintenance / housekeeping service, in which they didn't seem to come to our room to fix up the faulty bathroom lights despite calling them so many times till finally the men came when we were about to check out. Hopefully you won't suffer any of that kind of nonsense while you stay there. This could happen in any Malaysian hotels not just here I suppose. Just a management issue. They did send an apology letter later. Hey this is a service industry and we need to compete against our neighbours like Thailand and Indonesia which I felt seem to give better hotel service when I travelled to those places. So buck up Malaysia Hotels!
Meanwhile study the promo which I extracted out from the HSBC newsletter for your perusal. Hope it meets your vacation budget!

Trying out Eight Mentigi Guesthouse
I'm giving this Eight Mentigi Guesthouse a try. Initially I was to 'tumpang' my accommodation in Father's Guesthouse but Gerard wants to introduce his friends lodging which was started not too long ago in 2010.
A great way to boost up 8 Mentigi vacancy by having me stay the night and then later blog about it on my CHD website.
I blog more about this place later as I didn't sleep so well last night in Penang. Don't know why I'm having insomnia lately; could be due to too many things in my mind.
Century Pines Hotel Tanah Rata
My brother-in-law finally checked in Century Pine Hotel in Tanah Rata. Now he is very particular about service, after all, he is also in the service industry. The Century Pines Hotel service leaves much to be desired. Apparently during this peak period they are rather short handed I suppose. Still so far I have heard many complaints about most of the hotel service in Cameron Highlands. I guess you just can't expect the service level of this hillside resort to be comparable with those hotels in Kuala Lumpur. Century Pines Resort hotel is considered to be about 3 to 4 stars. My wife quipped that if you really want good service go stay in YTL Cameron Highlands Resort. Haha! That would really burn a hole in your wallet! If you really want good service level you could try Lakehouse Cameron Highlands but that too is not cheap! Even if it is the expensive hotels I have seen people complaining about their service levels too.
Century Pines Hotel vs Heritage Hotel
The other day my brother asked, "Century Pines Hotel vs Heritage Hotel, which one better?"
My brother was trying to find a hotel in Tanah Rata and was deciding on one of the star rated hotels in Cameon Highlands. Heritage Hotel has been long established while Century Pines Hotel was refurbished. After staying in each hotel I liked Century Pines Hotel. I think in terms of star rating Heritage got 5 star while Century Pines Hotel got 4 star. I don't how the star rating system works or how they evaluate whether this hotel should be this many stars or that many stars. But when you stay there you like it then I should say the hotel in Cameron Highlands that you stayed is good.
So Century Pines Hotel vs Heritage Hotel which one is better?
I liked Century Pines Hotel especially its ground floor unit that opens up the garden. Good for children to run around and something green for the eyes to see. On top of that easy access to Tanah Rata main road where the main shops and restaurants are located. Ya lor, lazy to walk ma.
And of course if you are feeling less lazy, the Parit trail is just next to it by the river. Got Feng Shui, you got hills, you water, you got land, umm but I'm no Feng Shui master so probably don't know what I'm talking about.
As for Heritage Hotel which shares the compound with Greenhill Apartments, maybe they do too much development and so have less greenery around Heritage Hotel. However some of the rooms have very good view of Cameron Highlands surrounding.
The thing about carpeted rooms, they need to clean it often otherwise it will smell of mildew. So if you don't have blocked nose, you will smell it clearly. While the garden room of Century Pines Hotel they use tiles. Tiles may be easier to clean and no mildew smell problem but they are very cold for the feet if you don't wear your slippers or shoes while walking around the room. Malaysian style of walking around rooms is usually barefooted, so a cold tile is no fun, while the carpeted floor of Heritage Hotel would be nicer.
So in the end which of the above hotel in Tanah Rata town is better? Your choice. For me I would prefer Century Pines Hotel, but Heritage Hotel is also ok-lah!
