Selamat Hari Raya and Happy Merdeka Day

Selamat Hari Raya and Happy Merdeka Day!
Somewhat late in my greetings coz been busy! Family decided to travel to Raub and visit relatives. The traffic was light as most balik kampung rush already done on Sat or Sun.
Traveling in Pahang, there is still much virgin forest and really enjoyed the scenery. Baby was excited for another excursion to take in new sights and adventure in discovery. He just recently learned how to walk unassisted, so to encourage him more, outings like this would spur him to explore more while doing more walks to strengthen his muscles.
Raub is not such a small town. The township is spread out a bit and boast several supermarkets. Our trip here visiting the relatives usually ended up with makan-makan! Nothing like a happy meal to foster better family relationship.
While travelling to Raub, I was thinking about the new route from Kuala Lipis which is near to Raub, that would take you to Cameron Highlands. Already there is narrow winding route from Raub to Fraser's Hill, so I wonder about that road leading to CH from here.
Well, won't be exploring about that route for now.
Just enjoying my stay here in an auntie's house which she also runs as a budget guesthouse for travelling salesman who need a place to bunk in for their business travel.
Nice to take break from my work and have a good bonding time with wife and baby!
So a belated Hari Raya and Happy Merdeka day!

It is really wet in Camerons

Rain, rain, rain in Cameron Highlands! Didn't quite make it back to Greenhill Apartment, so got a bit wet. Baby was alright. So now we could not load up our luggage to the MPV. Fortunately the apartment owner was kind enough to allow us to wait till the rain stop before we load up and move on back to KL/PJ.

Meamwhile we hold up in the apartment and watch some Astro.
Our next stop is to be at water crest restaurant. Will see how the weather holds out.

So wet in Cameron Highlands!

---- [22/8/2011]

The trip was particularly tiring for me and I think I caught a chill from all the rain. Now not only feeling the after effects of tiredness (with body ache and especially my neck ache from the very long drive home), but I think I caught a slight mild flu. Hope my body's antibody will fight it out and not let it slide to a full blown flu. Ah, sometimes you need a break from a holiday break as well!

Raining in Camerons

What a wet trip to Cameron Highlands. It was raining pretty frequent making the weather rather cold. I think tonight the temperature would easily hit 16 degrees Celcius.
Fortunately there were breaks in the raining pattern and we still managed to go some places like the Sg Palas Boh Tea Plantation.
Tonight we will go for dinner at Jasmine Cafe House. My wife said she ate there before. Could be, but I don't recalled with her. So this time will see after we try some of the house specialities.
Would be good to meet up with old friend and have a good time.
Meanwhile it was just plain wet here in Cameron Highlands.

Night Market still in Brinchang

Night market is still in Brinchang. Although earlier this year there was talk by the Majlis of Cameron Highlands to shift the night market to Tanah Rata, in the end I suppose the night market traders were none too pleased. Perhaps the Tanah Rata location was not good enough. It was to be behind the food court at the foot of the hill where the Majlis office building was located. It didn't look big enough from what I see. So in the end the Brinchang night market still remained. That meant on super peak period it is best to avoid the Simpang Pulai way in as you would be caught in a massive traffic jam.
Frankly speaking, even for me, a tourist, I would prefer it in Brinchang. This was where it started, so it should be maintained here. Also most people would know it here so Brinchang night market is still best as is.

BOH Tea Plantation Sg Palas

BOH Tea Plantation Sg Palas is one the more popular stop for many tourist. Although it is not one of the easier location to travel as one will have to negotiate the narrow winding road and give way when there is oncoming traffic.
Despite having been there so many times, one still never tires of the soothing greenery of the tea plantation. The renovated tea centre makes very modern compare to previous wooden tea shop structure.
It is a draw many tourist bringing along their DSLR and snapping away at the scenery and self potrait photos.
When we left at the closing time of 5pm many are still making their way to the Sg Palas Boh Tea Plantation. They should have done their research or even read the old signage, coz they are going to be dissappointed when the security guard refuse them entry and turn them back at the plantation gate.
For us, it was time to say sayonara to Boh Sg Palas Tea Plantation and head on elsewhere.

Your website is very helpful

Greenhill Apartment relaxing here

Just checked in Greenhill Apartment today. With loads of things to transfer from the car, everbody taking a relaxing break watching Astro AXN channel. Mind you 3rd floor and half the kitchen stuff and luggage and baby stuffs then three flight of stairs...
Ye, ye, good exercise. But got more to go in Cameron Highlands.
Sky kinda cloudy and threatening rain. That kinda put a hold on some of our outdoor activities. BOH tea plantation, no rain please!
Meanwhile better get a moving from Greenhill Apartments here!

Heritage Hotel view from Greenhill Apartment

Heritage Hotel view from Greenhill Apartment

Here's a nice view of Heritage Hotel from Greenhill Apartment. Due to lack of available rooms in hotel from the Heritage Vacation Club, we had to shift to Greenhill Apartment the next day to house a large number of family members.
Actually could have avoided all this hassle but due to miscommunication from my wife and my dad and the Heritage Vacation Club, the bookings became a mess. So no choice, wasted a night's stay of the Vacation Club points plus the hassle of having to shift all the luggage from hotel to apartment.
Well you, whenever a family group travel, and now with baby, the sheer number of items to bring for a trip is quite a bundle.
Anyway, this apartment got a nice view despite having to port all the stuffs 3 floors up! Fortunately many hands make work light.
Now the sky is getting balmy and slight drizzle, so our outdoor activities to the various attractions in Cameron Highlands may be hampered somewhat. Anyway, time for lunch soon, but first feed baby and then off we go!

Waking up in Cameron Highlands

Waking up in Cameron Highlands. Temperature in the morn about 23.4 C in the hotel room according to my Casio watch.
Still felt very cold here in Heritage Hotel. Now planning for breakfast coz my dad's Heritage Vacation club don't have breakfast included. I think we will go Uncle Chow for breakfast coz my family has not tried it yet.
As for baby? Will let him sleep with uncle and auntie coz their paid room came with breakfast and they can take care sleeping baby while we quickly take our breakfast.
Good to be up in Cameron Highlands to cool off from KL heat. Kinda off peak this weekend probably due to Ramadhan fasting month.
So go for some chow chow now!

Camerons here we come!

Time to take a break and travel to Cameron Highlands once again! This time round my dad would like to finish using his Heritage Vacation Club points so my parent, Lena, her mom and her sis together with baby will be tagging along. This will be the first time for good old baby to travel to his dad favorite vacation spot in Malaysia!
Yeah! Would be very interesting trip for him and bet his head will spin left and right taking in all the highlands sights!
Heard it will be cold this time right round. The Cameron Highlands's weather is rather wet this time round and there was some landslide with some fatalities. Hopefully by the time we make our way there it will be normalize. Still the weather is rather unpredictable.
I'm making the trip during ramadhan in the hope that it will be low peak so can avoid the holiday crowd. I should think so too judging from the reduced website traffic. Less searches could well mean less tourist during this fasting month.
There is a super long holiday during Hari Raya and Merdeka day combine during the end month of August. Could be crowded then again most people would want to 'balik kampung' to be with family. Still it is hard to say whether it will be a superpeak crowd as some may still want to holiday as an alternative to returning to their hometown.
For now, I will make trip earlier to avoid such peak times. Just want to enjoy and relax with family away from the crowd!
And of course collect info to update the Cameron Highlands Destination website too.
Bon voyage!

Dear Mahani,
I do not have any contact with the individual farmers. You could try to find their farming association. Unfortunately I do not know them. So you just have to search on your own.
