Dear Tan Peay Mei,
There are tour companies where you can hire out day guides. You could also follow their jungle hiking tours which would be more cost effective.
1) Cameron Secret 05-491 2484
2) Kang Tours and Travel 05-491 5828
3) CS Travel
There are many other smaller tour companies, but you can try the above 3 first. Sorry I don't have CS Travel number at hand.

Jan.

Dear Jan,
May I know if I follow the tour to go for hiking, is it need to request a permit? Because the Pejabat Daerah Raub request permit from me.

Peay Mei,
This is the first time I ever heard about requiring a permit for hiking in the jungle. I think the Pejabat Daerah Raub is pulling a fast one on you! They must be so desparado to gleen any kind of fees from the public to resort to this. I went jungle hiking in Pangkor and never needed any. Went to some popular gunung (forget the name) in Negeri Sembilan and never applied for any permit. To go hiking just bring a good pair of hiking shoes, essential stuffs in your backpack and make sure you are fit and you are good to go! Just don't get lost and stick to the normal path!
Cheers!

Dear Putri,
2) Kang Tours and Travel 05-491 5828 (sebelah Pos Office)
3) CS Travel
Harga mereka lebih-kurang sama-sama. Pakai tour pun boleh duduk Land Rover (jika pergi jungle hiking), action sikit-lah!
Cheers!

Pet friendly accommodation
Hi Jan,
We are planning to do a few days trip to Cameron Highlands with our two dogs. Any recommendation on pet friendly accommodation & place of interest??
Thanks.

Dear Alison Chin
Many have asked this question before, unfortunately most establishment (especially the upmarket ones) do not quite accept pets in their accommodation. You could only try with the smaller budget accommodation establishment who may be able to accommodate to your request.
You could try Cameronian Inn as I have seen some guests with pets.
Or else try out with apartment owners. Which landlord can accept I do not know, you just have ask and see.
Regards,
Jan.

Orang Asli and Jungle Trekking
Your website is very useful, and some of the stories are amusing.
I visited the Cameron Highlands last February whilst doing research on British History.
I trekked through the Jungle with the use of ASLI tribesmen as my guides (lovely people)what I would say is if your going off an established trail please ensure that you speak with the local Asli village chief, this is their land and as tourists we need to respect the heritage, culture and traditions.
When I heard stories from the Asli people of tourists just wondering around on their land I feel nothing but disgust we wouldn't want people just wondering through our homes with out been announced.
Also if Asli tracking services are used please negotiate a price for their services they need our support, just as much as you will need their support if you get lost in the Jungle.
If any one knows of a good Asli tracker whom lives Tanah Rata I would appreciate contact details.

Bus Coach to Tanah Rata Booking Questions
Hi, I'm planning for trip from Ipoh to Cameron in Dec and have these questions about taking coach to Tanah Rata -
1) Should I book coach now or is it safe to book 2 days before departure?
2) Are there any internet booking for Unititi and Kinta Omnibus? (I can't seem to find any) Which is the better one to take?
3) Do the buses leave on time?
4) How long is the journey by coach going by the new highway? I've read that it is 3 and half, but some says it is only one and a half by car..
Would be great if you could help! Thanks in advance!

Dear Artsy,
Will try to answer some of your questions, though I don't know all of them
1) Holiday season is coming so might be better to book in advance to ensure available seat. Or take your chances on that day. Up to you.
2) Don't know of any internet booking for bus/coaches. Besides they are all not that IT savvy.
3) Depends on the bus company. Most are on time except one company, I think it is the Regal bus company that plies the Tapah - CH - Simpang Pulai route. This one always got bus breakdown and bus delays.
You could also try the minivan service from Kang Tours and Travel. Cost a bit more but more reliable.
4) Do note bus / coach take longer time to travel with stops and slower speed limit (though some do break the law). The maximum bus speed allowed on highway is 90kph but I have been overtaken by buses at 110kph (speed limit of highway). So if you were me, I don't feel safe taking buses. So avoid night buses, many accidents occurs at night when bus driver is sleepy and night driving is also has poorer visibility.
Time taken by car (without speeding and getting a speeding ticket)
KL to Tapah = 1.5 hours.
Tapah to Tanah Rata = 1.5 hours.
Tapah to Simpang Pulai = 20 minutes
Simpang Pulai to Tanah Rata = 1.5 hours.
So perhaps you could add another 1/2 to 1 hour to the total time for above time for buses (not each leg, just the total)
Cheers!
